3rd Rock activewear reaches funding target, seeks major backer

Derby-based sustainable sportswear brand 3rd Rock has raised nearly £300,000 through an online crowdfunding campaign.

3rd Rock

The company, founded in 2010 by Jessica Mor, focuses on sustainable activewear for climbing and yoga. It sells women’s leggings for up to £68 and men’s hoodies for about £50. All products are made from organic cotton, recycled fabrics and locally sourced materials.

3rd Rock wants to be “the best and most ethical climbing clothing in the world”, it said in its Seedrs crowdfunding site.

With wholesale accounts in 12 countries and over 55,000 units sold, the brand has previously received expert guidance from the Goldman Sachs accelerator programme.

According to Business Desk, the company is now exploring a possible sale to a major industry name.

“I founded 3ed Rock out of a passion to make long lasting clothes that don’t cost the earth. Clothes that move with the body, rather than hold it back, and even add a cheeky bit of flair into the mix,” said Mor to the online news site.

A portion of sales are donated to Peak District Foundation, a charity working towards preserving the UK’s first ever national park.

“First and foremost, we know that the best thing we can do for the business is succeed. That means we’re keeping the same focus on developing our product range, and expanding into new markets, “ said Guy Mor, co-founder. “We also happen to think that the best way to grow is by creating a bond with the customer that isn’t based on a commercial relationship, and that the most sustainable profit comes from keeping customers for a lifetime. That means we’ve got a role to play too, and this is how we want to play that part.”
