Coach unveils new hobo bag, autumn 2017 looks at 75th anniversary event

Thursday night, Coach celebrated its 75th anniversary with a grand party in New York City. This follows a series of events to celebrate the anniversary, including the opening of Coach’s Fifth Avenue flagship.

At the anniversary party, which took place in New York City, the house presented its Fall/Winter 2017 dual-gender runway show. This is the first time the brand has shown its men's and women's collections together, partly because the brand’s menswear division has always shown with the London collections.

This year, Coach has made a big push to expand its footprint in New York City, where the brand was born, opening its impressive 20,000-square-foot “Coach House” flagship on Fifth Avenue last month as well as a high-profile flagship on London's Regent Street.

The show was a love letter from British Executive Creative Director Stuart Vevers to New York and the US in general, blending the city's individualism with the laidback attitude of the West Coast. The label's signature leather pieces with shearling detail were adorned with retro, space-themed motifs or varsity-style badges, while prairie-like dresses conjured up images of the Wild West.

The show also was the debut for Coach’s new handbag – a leather hobo bag dubbed “The Bandit”. And the house mascot Rexy the dinosaur was a common thread for a holiday capsule launching Friday.

Stuart Vevers said in a statement: “"New York City, the spiritual home of Coach, is a cultural melting pot that embraces individuality and celebrates togetherness. It welcomes outsiders, like me, in a way that's honest and un-contrived. Those values are more important today than ever as well as being relevant to our goal of making Coach the authentic, modern luxury alternative."

The show and party took place at Pier 94, with a set designed to look like an American motel parking lot. Vintage cars and fake snow decorated the space, and the Young People’s Chorus of New York City sung “Empire State of Mind” in an ode to New York City throughout the night.

The party and runway show drew a big-name crowd of celebrities and fashion insiders, including Drew Barrymore, Dree Hemingway, Zoe Kravitz, Riley Keough, Emma Roberts, Michael B Jordan, Hopper Penn, Hari Nef, Olivia Culpo, Rowan Blanchard, as well as model Jordan Barrett, musicians Diplo, Mark Ronson, Dua Lipa and Soko, stylist Brad Goreski, jewelry designer Pamela Love and menswear designer Peter Copping. DJS Lolawolf and Mark Ronson were spinning the event.
