Geraldine Wharry: S/S 2017 Catwalk Innovation: XXX Pockets
Oversized pockets become the key ingredient for sports and elevated casuals across all cities showcasing their Spring Summer 2017 collections. We analysed Paris, New York, London as well as Berlin, Copenhagen and Sydney.
Functionalities are celebrated and exaggerated so think distortion, over-layering, gussets and flaps. Large front trouser pockets are also back, echoing the best-selling Joie trousers from around 2004, as well as Danang from the late 1990s.
There is a sense designers are creating for women in touch with their combative side. Is this a nod to the resurgence of feminism? Or just in time to say a big 'NO MORE' to normalised abuse as recently reflected in Donald Trump's leaked tape.
You decide. We love it.
