Trendstop: Key Trends from NYFW SS 2016

Published
Sep 25, 2015

With the Spring/Summer 2016 ready-to-wear shows in full swing, the team at Trendstop are hard at work to bring you all the hottest trends straight from the runways of the world’s fashion capitals. Fashion week season officially kicked off in The Big Apple, attracting thousands of editors, buyers and industry professionals to the heart of New York City. On the catwalks, Spring/Summer 2016 collections conveyed a fresh design ethos which embraced commerciality, as high fashion designers pare back strong texture and print directions to utilize sensual silks and romantic silhouettes instead. This week, Trendstop blog readers are presented with three New York designers who have been pinpointed by our editors for S/S16, having created inspirational and directional womenswear collections with standout status.

The Otherworldly Wanderer – 3.1 Phillip Lim

Celebrating the brand’s decade in fashion, 3.1 Phillip Lim’s latest collection does away some of the more intricate surface plays of recent seasons to make way for a rediscovered sense of romance and femininity. Models were styled to create a look of The Otherworldly Wanderer with dainty tapestry florals, satin bomber jackets and Eastern-inspired wrap skirts, infused with utility chic shades of khaki, olive and butterscotch.

Kick of Cool – Jil Sander Navy

Sander’s diffusion line keeps styles youthful and clean for Spring/Summer 2016, placing an athletic twist on the house’s signature looks. Broad slabs of sportive colour blocking come together with wide stripes to energize a baseline palette of monochrome with primaries. Meanwhile, multiple layers are clashed to reveal unexpected bursts of volume and sharply angled hemlines.
Patriotic Parade – Marc Jacobs

For Spring/Summer 2016, Marc Jacobs takes inspiration from his love affair with all things Americana, using saturated bursts of the iconic red, white and blue colors. A vast sweep of American-esque staples emerge in the form of stars ‘n’ stripes flags, rodeo-fringed denim and oversized varsity jackets, along with revitalized prairie gingham.
