Dutch womenswear brand Stroke Amsterdam has filed for bankruptcy. In addition to apparel, bags and accessories, the brand is also known for offering shawls.

According to a public bankruptcy report on Faillissement Dossier, the court in Amsterdam pronounced the bankruptcy on 12 June 2018. Earlier this week, Dutch media outlets reported that Stroke Amsterdam owner Berry Tielens had announced that he would quit the label.

The brand said that it was unable to expand its point of sales and would therefore have to wind down the label after 20 years of operation. The summer collection, which is currently in stores, will be the last one. The autumn/winter collection 2018/2019 will not be supplied, according to the earlier reports.

At the time of bankruptcy, Stroke Amsterdam was available at 120 point of sales across the Netherlands and 40 in Belgium. Dutch retail partners include multi-brand retailers SY in Vlaardingen; Noah in Oosterbeek; and See fashion in Bilthoven.

Stroke Amsterdam was founded in 1999 by designer and owner Berry Tielens. In 2016, the label re-branded and changed its original name, Stroke by Berry Tielens, to Stroke Amsterdam. At the time, the label also expanded its offer and added bags and accessories to its range. Stroke Amsterdam produced four collections a year in addition to limited editions between the seasonal collections.
