Stella McCartney to receive humanitarian award

Published
Apr 17, 2018

British fashion designer Stella McCartney will be presented with a humanitarian award at the second annual Women of Vision luncheon, organised by the David Lynch Foundation, next month, in recognition of her contributions to the fashion industry and support of women in need.

The designer, who recently bought back Kering’s 50% stake in her eponymous fashion brand to become its sole owner, was also recently recognised for her ongoing efforts in promoting sustainability at the Fashion Awards in December.

The humanitarian award honours individuals or organisations who change the lives of women and children for the better through their wisdom, life experiences and actions. This is the second year the Foundation organises a Women of Wisdom luncheon, with model Gisele Bündchen receiving the award in 2017.

The event will take place on 8 May in New York, with proceeds going to the David Lynch Foundation Women’s Health Initiative, which supports women and children survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault through the Transcendental Meditation technique.

Stella McCartney has also partnered with the Foundation on a fashion competition. The winner will receive a $2,500 gift certificate to shop at Stella McCartney New York, and enjoy a private tea with other VIPs and the designer to talk about sustainability in the fashion industry.

Since launching the brand in 2001, Stella McCartney has opened over 51 standalone stores in locations including Manhattan, London, LA, Paris, Milan, Tokyo, Shanghai and Beijing. Most recently, she debuted her first ever menswear collection.
