Savannah College of Art and Design to hold first US solo museum exhibit for Guo Pei

The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) announced on Tuesday the opening of the first US solo museum exhibit for Chinese couturière Guo Pei on September 7, 2017 at SCAD Fash Museum of Fashion + Film.
 

The exhibition will feature over 30 ensembles, footwear and accessories by Guo Pei, including the iconic yellow cape that superstar pop artist Rihanna wore to the Met Gala in 2015.
 
The cape Rihanna wore to the Met Gala helped introduce Guo Pei to the American consumer, and led to the Beijing-born designer being named one of Time’s Most Influential People in 2016. Pei's work was also featured in the Costume Institute’s China: Through the Looking Glass exhibit, and she was honored by the China Institute in September 2016.

In conjunction with the exhibit, SCAD is collaborating with alumni to produce a monograph celebrating Guo Pei’s designs and career. The book, releasing in December 2017, will be the first to focus solely on the Chinese designer and will feature new and archival images of the designer’s work and offer insight into her career.
 
"International superstar fashion artist Guo Pei is in a league of her own, as is SCAD, the preeminent source of knowledge in the disciplines we teach," said SCAD President and Founder Paula Wallace. "It is our honor to partner with Guo Pei and with our friends at Rizzoli to publish the first grand compilation of her work as part of the SCAD Museum Book Collection. Readers will become immersed in the ethereal, magical world of Guo Pei and the wonders she creates."
 
In addition, the Pei Ling Chan Gallery in Savannah, Georgia will open in October 2017 a complimentary exhibit of Guo Pei’s work.
 
The Guo Pei exhibit at SCAD Fash Museum of Fashion + Film will be on view through March 4, 2018.
