Reed Krakoff named Tiffany & Co. Chief Artistic Officer

Tiffany & Co. announced on Tuesday that Reed Krakoff has been named Chief Artistic Officer, effective February 1, 2017. He succeeds Design Director Francesca Amfitheatrof who is leaving the company to pursue other opportunities and interests.

As Chief Artistic Officer, the former Coach designer and founder of his namesake label will direct design for Tiffany & Co. brand jewelry and luxury accessories, and he will lead the brand’s artistic and design visions in stores and e-commerce and in marketing and advertising.

Krakoff has history with Tiffany & Co. having served as creative collaborator for the jewelry company in 2016. The collection will debut in holiday 2017.

The three-time CFDA Award winner served as President and Executive Creative Director of Coach after serving in a senior design role at Ralph Lauren. He founded his namesake accessories label in 2010 within the Coach group, and in 2013, he bought the label from Coach and stepped down from the company. Krakoff suspended his label, but he continued to design launching collaborations with Tiffany & Co. and Kohl’s.

Tiffany announced in November its first sales rise in eight quarters led by strong sales in Japan and China, which offset the decline in sales in the US. The company on Tuesday reported weak holiday sales, which it blamed on Fifth Avenue traffic around Trump Tower. Tiffany & Co. was one of many Fifth Avenue tenants impacted by the increased security around Trump Tower.

Holiday sales in the US fell 4% to $483 million, but global sales increased to $966 million.
