Pringle of Scotland has announced the departure of Massimo Nicosia, the designer in charge of menswear, who decided to return to Italy, his native country, to take on a new challenge. His last men's collection for the label is the Summer 2018 one.

Massimo Nicosia - Pitti Immagine

Massimo Nicosia has enjoyed a long-standing association with the Scottish knitwear label, for which he worked during two separate periods. The first dates back to 2008, when he joined Pringle as senior designer for menswear under the aegis of the then Creative Director Clare Waight Keller, who is now in charge of Givenchy.

After two years, Nicosia left for Nicole Farhi, where he took over as menswear director. It was only a two-year stint however, since he re-joined Pringle of Scotland in 2012 as Creative Director of all the label's collections.

In 2016, British designer Fran Stringer joined Pringle to take over responsibility for the women's collections, and Massimo Nicosia refocused on menswear alone, as Creative Director again. In June 2016, he staged a catwalk event at Pitti Uomo to celebrate the label's two hundredth anniversary. Pringle was founded in 1815, and was bought in 2000 by SC Fang & Sons, one of Hong Kong's largest knitwear producers.

In a press release, Pringle has stated that Fran Stringer will continue in her role as womenswear Creative Director, while the next men's collection will be designed by an internal team.

Massimo Nicosia has a degree in architecture from the University of Florence, to which he added industrial design studies. In 2004, he started out in fashion as designer at Alessandro Dell'Acqua, where he worked on ready-to-wear apparel and accessories for four years, before beginning his tenure at Pringle of Scotland.
