Olympia Le-Tan announces departure from eponymous brand

Published
Jul 9, 2018

French brand Olympia Le-Tan has lost its eponymous co-founder. The designer who lent her name and her personal style to the witty Parisian label that built its reputation on book-shaped minaudières has stepped away from the brand without providing any further details about its future creative direction. The designer and daughter of illustrator Pierre Le-Tan made the announcement on Instagram

“I first started this journey 20 years ago at my mother’s kitchen table with my own two hands, a needle and thread, and the naive little idea of creating a world for women, combining my love of craft, books, fantasy, sex, and nostalgia,” she wrote. “Unfortunately, like all journeys, there are obstacles along the way. As strange as this may sound, effective immediately, I am no longer affiliated with the Olympia Le-Tan brand.”

The label, which was placed into receivership last October, was launched in 2009 as an accessories brand before expanding into apparel, presenting its ready-to-wear collections at Paris Fashion Week from spring/summer 2013 to spring/summer 2017.

In 2014, the designer and her business partner, Grégory Bernard, opened a store in the centre of Paris, at 5 rue des Petits-Champs. The label, which has collaborated with a number of different brands, including Lancôme, Disney and Repetto, received one million euros in funding from French investment firm Audacia in 2015.
