Nike, Kohl’s and Levi’s among companies for White House Climate Pledge

Published
Dec 2, 2015

The White House on Monday announced 73 additional companies joining the American Business Act on Climate Pledge, bringing the total to 154 companies.

By signing the pledge, these companies are voicing their support for action on climate change and the conclusion of a climate change agreement in Paris. Also, the companies demonstrate a commitment to climate action by reducing their emissions, increase low-carbon investments, deploy more clean energy and take other actions to build more sustainable businesses and tackle climate change.

Nike

Kohl’s, Nike and Levi’s are among the 73 companies that have pledged to take action against climate change. Each company detailed their specific actions and goals in their respective pledges, like Nike’s plan to reach 100% renewable energy in its owned and operated facilities by 2025 and Levi’s plan reduce greenhouse gas emissions 25% in its office by 2020.

President Obama is leading the charge to prevent climate change. His Climate Action Plan, when fully implemented, will cut nearly 6 billion tons of carbon pollution through 2030, the Clean Power Plan will reduce emissions from the energy sector by 32% by 2030 and greenhouse gas emissions are expected to be reduced economy-wide by 26-28% by 2025.

The world has seen the effects of climate change; nineteen of the 20 hottest years on record occurred in the past two decades. To date, over 180 countries, including economies like the US, China, the European Union and India, have reported post-2020 climate policies to the United Nations.

The 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference began in Le Bourget on November 30 and will run through December 11. Obama is leading the fight to achieve a binding, universal agreement on climate from every nation around the world.
