Multi-brand retailer Men At Work to close e-store

Dutch multi brand retailer Men At Work will be closing its e-store. The retailer is currently offering customers final sales before the closing.

According to Dutch financial news website RTL Z, the online store closure is a result of financial problems, based on information from Men At Work employees. The sources added that the physical stores will remain open for the time being.

One source told the news outlet that the closing of the e-store means that the retailer will continue to focus on its physical stores only. However, another source said it hopes Men At Work will make it to the end of the year.

Another employee argues that the physical stores will close at the end of this year, but it does not mean that Men At Work is bankrupt. The source also told RTL Z that external suppliers currently collect the unsold stock.

Local media reported earlier this month that Men At Work branches in Leiden and Groningen are closing at the end of this year.

In addition, various media reported that Men At Work has implemented several cost-saving measures: partnerships, including with brands, have ended and an unknown number of employees will be dismissed. The retailer said earlier that it will release a statement, but it has not responded yet.

Men At Work currently operates 33 branches in the Netherlands and Belgium. In  2017, founder Marcel van Gelderen acquired the retailer back from Varova Fashion Group, who had a share in the chain since late 2013. The retailer opened its first store in 1995.
