Mugler's Resort 2017 collection: fluidity, movement and femininity

Mugler is the latest fashion house to raise the curtain on its 2017 resort collection. The underlying theme is movement and fluidity, with the focus on a very modern sophisticated silhouette, and a hint of athleticism.

A silohouette from the Mugler 2017 Resort collection.

Kinetic art was a strong influence on this collection by David Koma, who has been Mugler's creative director for over two years. This inspiration has resulted in curved cuts in some pieces, as well as an unusual combination of colors, which in some cases look like a moving rainbow.

Highly sensual, without ever being sexy, the female silhouette is revealed through slashed fabric, particularly at the thigh, hips, bust and shoulders. This is underscored with neon topstitching or studs. Asymmetry is also in evidence, accentuating the collection's femininity and sensuality.

The dresses come in different lengths, with minidresses at thigh level, cocktail dresses hitting the knee, and dresses with a curved cut reaching the calf. The maxi-length dresses are generally split.

Mugler's DNA comes through in some parts of this resort collection: the strong shoulders, puff/rounded sleeves, and a lot of stitching detail.

In terms of the color palette, the black and white contrasts with the pastel and/or bold tones, including mint, mauve, mimosa yellow, cobalt blue, vermilion red, magenta, silver and orange.
