Michael Kors perfects smart-casual at New York Fashion Week Men's

Michael Kors bridged the gaps between smart and athletic on Tuesday, with a New York Fashion Week Men's collection that focused on hybrid fashion.

The American designer's Spring/Summer 2017 line put a fresh spin on menswear for the new season, breathing an urban sporty vibe into his trademark preppy aesthetic.

To this end, smart pea coats were teamed with city shorts, anorak trenches with cropped trousers and poplin suits pared down by windbreaker-style blazers. Belted shorts were paired with silk bombers and cotton polo shirts with linen sateen trousers for an exemplary exercise in dressed-down chic.

The hybrid approach could also be seen in Kors's tailored trousers jeans, cardigan jackets and modernist takes on architectural herringbone. Though the fabrics, centered largely around linens, cottons and silks, were soft, the details were razor sharp -- with silver grommets snaps and bold zippers catching the eye.

A color palette of jaunty maritime blues and rich tonal neutrals of sand and nutmeg was brought into focus by snappy touches of black and white and livened up by touches of pattern incorporating crisp dots and bold stripes. Even accessories were given a hybrid makeover, with polished backpacks, tailored duffel bags and rugged Oxford shoes encapsulating the dapper ease of the collection.
