Matchesfashion to open 5 Carlos Place this week

Matchesfashion.com is opening its ambitious new retail concept at 5 Carlos Place this week with a cultural programme of events that includes a Prada Installation and eco-focused talks.

The five-floor building in Mayfair will be part retail store, part media hub. It has taken the brand more than a year to bring it into existence since it was announced in May last year. With two floors of retail, two floors of private shopping suites and one floor for events, the 7,000-square-foot space merges the company’s three customer touchpoints to create a completely new experience.

“Our mission is to create the most personal luxury shopping experience in the world, so we wanted an environment where we could initiate conversations with our customers and create a global sense of community enabled through the power of technology," said Ulric Jerome, CEO.

"Our vision of retail offers inclusive events that customers can sign up to attend or watch through live-streaming and discover content generated to inspire them. The events at 5 Carlos Place cover all elements of luxury and culture. It’s exciting that this space will be used to create experiences that will resonate with all our customers, wherever they are globally.”

This is a major project for the luxury retailer, which also has stores in London’s Marylebone, Notting Hill and Wimbledon. To mark the new opening, Matchesfashion has collaborated on an exclusive collection of womenswear, menswear and accessories with Prada. The range will be on display throughout the townhouse in an installation designed by Robert Storey from 4-12 September.

There will be also a series of sustainability talks with environmental activist Livia Firth and Natalie Kingham, fashion and buying director at Matchesfashion and Kevin Germanier, Swiss designer and innovator of sustainable-led fashion. Fashion photographer Mario Sorrenti will host an evening of cocktails and an exclusive book signing of his book, 'Kate'.

Especially important for the company’s vision of creating a sense of community will be a series of workshops and masterclasses. Graphic designer Alaric Garnier and Super Stitch will teach guests how to customise their vintage Levi’s in 20 September, while Vic Brotherson, founder of renowned London florist Scarlet and Violet, will demonstrate the art of crating floral arrangements on 25 September.

In a move to engage with the 100 million people who regularly visit Matchesfashion.com, some events will be also available to watch live online, including a talk between Sarah Mower and Richard Quinn and a conversation between Garance Doré and vintage curator and style director of Holiday Boileau Gauthier Borsarello.

Meanwhile, acclaimed Australian chef Skye Gyngell will talk about her food inspirations in Matchesfashion’s first podcast series.
