Kanye West attacks Nike in new song

Published
Jan 5, 2016

Far behind Nike in the sportswear sector in the United States, Adidas is planning on catching up. The German group has strengthened its investments across the pond, recruiting star designers and setting up a creative centre in New York. But perhaps in its best move yet, it has been partnering with some major stars, the most major of which being Kanye West.

In Facts, Kanye West expresses his disgust of Nike - twitter

The rapper, who started on a collaboration with Nike, left the brand to sign on with Adidas to take on the role of designer for his Yeezy collections.

Kanye West, never one to do things on a small scale, is known for his outlandish comments and misplaced antics (notably at the Grammy Awards, Taylor Swift in 2009, Beck in 2015), and has already increased attention for Adidas with his sold-out Yeezy collections in 2015. To celebrate the New Year, he has just released a new track called 'Facts', an ode to his talent as a designer with Yeezy.

He sings, "I ain't drop an album but the shoes went platinum", and directly attacks Nike: « Yeezy Yeezy Yeezy, just jumped over Jumpman" and "Nike, Nike treat employees just like slaves/ Gave LeBron a billi' not to run away".

Not surprisingly, the media has been abuzz with comments ever since the song dropped on Friday. However, it remains to be seen what effect the song, and the buzz, will have on Adidas.
