Jason Wu to consolidate his collections into two shows per year

Published
May 25, 2017

The New York-based designer has chosen to consolidate his resort and spring collections into one show this September, called “Spring One,” to be presented during the fall edition of New York Fashion Week. Wu will also present his pre-fall and fall collections in one show.

Though Wu will be showing his resort collection alongside his spring line, he will still produce the same number of pieces. However the upcoming resort collection will be designed to coincide with the main spring line under a cohesive theme. The designer says consolidating the two collections will allow him to tell a more developed story.

Most designers show their resort collections during the May and June months, but many labels have begun to deviate from the standard fashion calendar. Brands such as Gucci and Vetements have chosen to consolidate their men’s and women’s showings, and Alexander Wang showed a few of his resort collection’s pieces during his Spring 2017 show in September.

A handful of designers with a history of showing during New York Fashion Week have also chosen to move their shows to Paris. Proenza Schouler, Rodarte and Monique Lhuillier have all announced plans to show their Spring 2018 collections during the Paris couture shows in July.

With the new schedule, Wu will give just two presentations during the year, rather than the typical four. He will continue to show during New York Fashion Week.
