Is Amazon planning to deliver parcels by bus?

Published

London’s biggest bus operator is reportedly in talks with Amazon about converting bus depots into delivery hubs and using buses to deliver parcels.

Transport company Go-Ahead said the initiative would help store bigger shipments at its depots across central London and cut the distance that parcels have to travel between delivery hubs and shoppers’ addresses.

The announcement comes as an increase in vans delivering online orders contributes to London’s congestion problem and on the back of falling bus passenger journeys.

And parcels are being increasingly delivered to offices, as well as homes, with TFL estimating that 30% to 60% of deliveries to offices in central London are now for personal use.

Go-Ahead said it is also looking to partner with other logistics providers to help reduce congestion.
