Indochino will almost double its store count in 2017

Vancouver-based made-to-measure menswear retailer Indochino announced on Thursday plans to expand its retail footprint with the opening of eight new showrooms in 2017.

Three stores will open in Western Canada, while five other locations are set to open in various major cities in the U.S. later this year. The three Canadian stores will open in Edmonton, Calgary and Greater Vancouver. The Edmonton store will open March 30 at the West Edmonton Mall and in Calgary, at the CF Chinook Centre on April 6. A third location is also slated to open at Metropolis at Metrotown in Burnaby, Greater Vancouver, sometime this spring. In the U.S., the company is investigating major cities such as Washington, D.C., and Chicago, where the company has a thriving online customer base, and is also looking to open secondary locations in large markets like New York.

The expansion will bring Indochino’s total store count to 13 showrooms spanning North America.

"This year, we're almost doubling our showroom network as we focus on significantly expanding our experiential retail model," says Drew Green, Chief Executive Officer at Indochino, in a news statement. "As we continue to bring our unique showrooms to more cities and introduce custom clothing as an attractive and affordable alternative to ready-to-wear, we're beginning to change the way a generation of men suit up, and that's incredibly exciting to see."

At the Indochino showrooms, customers are paired with a Style Guide who helps them design their suit or shirt. Style Guides take measurements, assist with fabric selection, and more. Each garment is made-to-order and delivered within four weeks.

Indochino first launched in 2007 as an online retailer before opening its first permanent bricks-and-mortar location in 2014, in Vancouver. The company announced major international expansion plans last year, which entailed the opening of about 150 retail stores globally by the year 2020.

Last year, Indochino saw year-over-year omnichannel sales growth of 54 percent and year-over-year sales in comparable showrooms ending the year at 32 percent. In 2017 the company's growth trajectory has continued, with January's year-over-year omnichannel sales growth over 50 percent.
