Havaianas opens exclusive pop-up in Selfridges, Manchester

Selfridges is diving deep into pop-up stores these days, although much of the attention around these is usually focused on the pop-ups it’s opening in its Oxford Street, London flagship store.

But the luxury department store retailer is doing likewise elsewhere and one of its latest is in the Manchester branch.

This month has seen a ‘Make Your Own’ pop-up for Brazilian footwear brand Havaianas at the department store, which is located in the city's key Trafford Centre mall.

It was designed, produced and installed by StudioXAG as an exclusive beach hut with a strong summer focus, and its timing couldn't have been better given the heatwave that has characterised much of the UK during this month.

The design specialist said the central walkway is inspired by the Burle Marx-designed Copacabana tiled promenade.

Distressed, washed-out pastel blue and white finishes can be seen on seating, as well as product display areas and sun loungers. The facade of the ‘beach bar’ is decorated with a hand-painted Brazilian coastal scene and “playful” typographics, which invite customers to spin a wheel to match a strap with their desired sole, help to reinforce the ‘make your own’ concept. 

The space also includes trompe l’oeil sand flooring, crate-style storage “for a cornucopia of coloured flip flops”, and decorative palm trees to complete the event area.
