The 25th Fashion Week Spring/Summer, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, will be held from July 9 to 12, 2018, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. A series of seminars on the applications of fashion tech will be held during the event to help industry players to keep abreast with the trend.

On July 10, 2018, a seminar entitled ‘The Next Wave in Fashion Technology’ will share on some of the state-of-art technologies disrupting fashion practices, while on July, 11, another seminar titled ‘Online Shopping Reshapes the Fashion Industry’ will explore insights in fashion e-tailing.

During the seminar titled ‘The Next Wave in Fashion Technology’, industry experts will share their works on latest fashion technologies and illustrate how these inventions are changing different aspects of fashion. Dr. Li, associate professor of institute of textiles and clothing of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University will share on the topic of ‘Intelligent Manufacturing and its Medical Application of Wearable Electronic Textile Products’. The scholar has been developing a new generation of thermal textiles based on wearable electronic technology. The proposed textile can perform temperature control, permitting the fabrics to be used for general apparel, medical applications, and other potential areas that required comfort and thermal materials.

The application of technology to enhance the online fashion shopping experience will be highlighted by Dr. Andrew Zhu, CEO of TOZI Technology Company Limited, who will talk on the topic ‘Intelligent 3D Human Modelling - Making Shopping Well-fitting Clothes Easy and Fun’. In view of shoppers’ struggle to look for the perfect fit when shopping online for garments, he has invented an application that gives accurate body measurement with only two pictures of the users. Then, the users can base on the measurement to select the suitable size in their online garment purchases.

Another way of technology transforming fashion industry is by ecommerce. The explosion of fashion eshops has reflected the fierce competitions in the online fashion business. In the seminar of ‘Online Shopping Reshapes the Fashion Industry’ taking place on July, 11, 2018, industry experts will share the latest landscape and business strategies on fashion ecommerce.

On July 9, 2018 there will a seminar entitled ‘Fashion Snoops Looks at the Visionary Trends for Autumn Winter 2019/20 for Women’s and Men’s Wear and Accessories’. An expert from the renowned trend forecaster Fashion Snoops will shed light on the upcoming fashion market trend. Other events include ‘Essential Testings and Ratings for Textiles and Garments’ seminar and buyer forum.

Under the theme ‘Happy Collage’, this year’s Fashion Week will feature some 1,100 exhibitors from 14 countries and regions, including newcomers from Singapore and Sri Lanka; along with nine pavilions from Ninghai, Humen, and Keqiao from the Chinese Mainland, Japan, India’s Apparel Export Promotion Council, and The Synthetic & Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council, Thailand’s Department and Industrial Promotion and Thailand Textile Institute, as well as Sri Lanka.

The Fashion Tech zone will present different fashion technology service, while buyers can also find smart fashion products in different zones as well. Lastly, the new Corporate Fashion and Uniforms zone will cater to the growing demand for this product segment.
