Clare V. tests European market with Paris pop-up store

US label Clare V., helmed by designer Clare Vivier, has virtually no presence in Europe, though it is well-known to accessories aficionados, and is now making a move to enter the French market. The high-end leather goods label was launched in Los Angeles in 2008, and has recently opened a pop-up store which will operate until 28th December, inside Parisian concept store Small, at 19 rue Notre Dame de Nazareth.

Autumn-Winter 17 collection - Clare V.

Paris is a city that designer Clare Vivier knows well: she lived and worked there as a journalist, and it was in Paris that she first conceived the idea of designing a satchel, which could hold a laptop and look smart as well as being functional. Vivier eventually launched her label in Los Angeles, all of its items being US made. In a few years, she succeeded in making a name for herself in the USA, notably thanks to the French mood she infused her label with, not least through the French wording printed on some of its models.

It was not a random choice on Clare V.'s part then to test its monobrand capabilities in Paris, having featured in multibrand stores before. The label is now ready to deploy a full range in-store, having diversified by launching men's leather accessories, mixed ready-to-wear apparel, footwear and recently fragrances.

In the last few years, Clare V. opened seven stores in the USA, on both the West and East coasts, and its revenue is currently estimated to be in the region of €10 million.

In Paris, Clare V. will showcase a festive selection, some best-sellers and a collaboration with US rapper Mike D. The label is adept at joining forces with other brands, something it does regularly for their product expertise or visibility, as for example with & Other Stories in 2015. Last spring, Clare V. was featured on French e-tail website MSR (formerly MonShowroom).

As it is about to celebrate its tenth birthday, Clare V. is keen on entering new markets, and France is its first port of call.
