The China Institute on Monday, September 26 will honor Chinese haute couturière Guo Pei. The designer who has dressed actresses Fan Bingbing and Zhang Ziyi as well as Rihanna at the Met Gala in 2015 will be honored at a small, exclusive breakfast hosted by the China Institute at the Waterfall Mansion and Gallery at 170 East 80th Street in New York City.

At the breakfast, Guo Pei’s accomplishments will be highlighted and she will discuss her journey to becoming China’s premiere couturière including how she got her break and how her background has influenced her designs. Afterwards, Yue-Sai Kan, an Emmy-winning television host and producer will moderate a Q&A session.

Born in Beijing in 1967, Guo Pei founded her own fashion brand in 1997 after becoming chief designer at one of Beijing’s first independently owned clothing companies. Guo’s had her work exhibited at the Costume Institute’s China: Through the Looking Glass exhibit at the Met in 2015 and she was also named one of the World's 100 Most Influential People by Time Magazine. Guo said, "With my designs, I aim to express elements of Chinese culture through the language of fashion. I am honored to partner with the China Institute to grow American awareness and understanding of my home country China."

The China Institute, a not-for-profit organization advancing deeper understanding of China through programs in art, culture, education and business, will host its annual Blue Cloud Gala on September 27 and will honor Guo Pei. The designer donated one of her notable designs to be auctioned at the gala.
