British luxury house Burberry has announced the appointment of Judy Collinson as chief merchandising officer, succeeding Paul Price who is leaving the business to pursue a new opportunity.

Collinson is an experienced luxury merchandiser, and her most recent role was senior vice president of merchandising at Christian Dior US, where she spent over five years. Previously, she worked 22 years at Barneys New York, rising to executive vice president, general merchandising manager for the women’s division.

Collinson will join Burberry on 8 May, tasked with driving the company’s product strategies as the brand initiates a strategic turnaround. She will initially report to chief creative and chief executive officer Christopher Bailey and then to Marco Gobbetti when he becomes CEO on 5 July.

“I am delighted to announce the appointment of Judy Collinson as Chief Merchandising Officer. Judy has extensive experience of fashion retail and luxury merchandising that will be invaluable to Burberry as we take action to strengthen the brand and position the business for growth,” said Christopher Bailey. He also thanked Paul Price for the contribution he made to Burberry over the past 9 years.

Burberry is undergoing a business review to target future growth following a weak performance last year. The incoming CEO is expected to help put Burberry back in fashion.
