BCBG hits the reset button for spring 2018 collection

Published
Sep 14, 2017

BCBG is looking back to move forward. Creative Director Bernd Kroeber, who stepped into his role in March in the midst of the fashion house’s bankruptcy, drew inspiration from the brand’s home city of Los Angeles for his inaugural collection.

Gallery 151 on West 14th Street was a packed house on Tuesday for the debut of spring 2018. The collection, which is comprised of three stories and deliveries, was displayed on mannequins throughout the space, and a few models wore key looks.

Each story captured past and present day style in Los Angeles. Denim cutoffs and fedoras were missing to make room for a chic offering of dresses and outerwear. The whimsical white dresses are best described by the story title, Nostalgic Beach, while black dresses with deep neck lines, open shoulders and lace detail, black double breasted coats with leather detail, and deep red dresses all capture the nightlife of the City of Angels.

The final story, Victoria Canyon, is best reflected in the details of each ensemble. Western details on bohemian silhouettes reference California’s many deserts. The dusty, natural colors on striped scarves and bird wing graphic on a t-shirt also nod to the arid conditions.

BCBG spent most of 2017 trying to remain in business, eventually being saved by an acquisition from Marquee Brands. The spring 2018 collection can be seen as a rebirth for BCBG, and it helps to have Kroeber leading the show in his 10th year with the company.
