Amazon summer trends report backs Sunday shopping, analogue watches, mum jeans

Published
Jul 25, 2017

With clearance well under way and the autumn collections waiting in the wings, Amazon Fashion in the UK has released its summer trends report and one of the findings is that, for this year at least, Sunday is the most popular day of the week to shop for fashion.

Analogue watches remain a key category for Amazon

It seems the popular image of consumers e-shopping during their lunch hours and during their commute is less common than we might think with Britons choosing the quietest day of the week to indulge their shopping habit.

But what are people buying on Sundays, or any other day of the week for that matter? The e-tail giant said that one key trend in the last six months has been that the Amazon Fashion Jewellery store has seen silver tone jewellery sales rising to outstrip gold tone jewellery sales.

Watches have also been a key category, despite the problems the fashion watch sector has seen in recent years as consumers have switched to telling the time via their smartphones. But with technology helping watch brands striking back via the smartwatch category, has the balance started to tip back into watches’ favour?

It appears not, or at least not completely. Amazon said that digital is making an impact, but the more traditional analogue watch is still the most popular option for those shoppers who want to buy a watch.

And in the clothing category, the denim trend is nowhere near to running out of steam. But it seems that designer-driven attempts to coax consumers into wider-leg styles are proving fairly fruitless. The e-tailer said that the two silhouettes/styles that are proving particularly popular this summer are skinny and mum jeans, with demand having been steady all season.
